U.S. Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA) Evaluation Technical Assistance Center (ETAC)

Overview

Synergy supports the operations, sustainment, documentation, training, and enhancement of the DoWEA ETAC web portal; provides grant management services; provides grantee technical assistance; and manages communications, including social media. DoWEA awards grants to military-connected local education agencies for the Military-Connected Academic and Support Program (MCASP) and the World Language Advancement and Readiness Grants Program (WLARP), which have affected more than 3 million students, including over 1 million military-connected students, across the United States. MCASP grants implement evidence-based solutions to meet the academic needs of the highly mobile military-connected students in their communities. WLARP grants establish, improve, or expand world language programs targeting elementary and secondary students to develop and sustain the pipeline of individuals with skills needed to address national security and economic competitiveness needs. By participating in DoWEA’s programs, grantees gain access to high-quality technical assistance, resources, and professional learning opportunities to improve academic and outcomes for military-connected students in pre-K through 12th grade.

Impact

The DoWEA ETAC provides robust technical assistance and support for DoWEA’s 150+ grantees, ensuring their successful implementation of grant projects and compliance with grant management requirements. Synergy launched a comprehensive help desk providing support to the DoWEA grant community via email, phone, web form, and chat. Synergy updated DoWEA’s social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and X, as well as launching a DoWEA LinkedIn account and YouTube channel. Synergy provides planning and facilitation for the DoWEA Annual Community of Practice (CoP) Meeting for over 200 grant leaders and for the six annual regional DoWEA CoPs, which are conducted by regional grant leaders. Synergy recently redesigned and updated the ETAC web portal to include revised grantee reporting, data analysis and display, financial requests, resource sharing, and community networking. We also produce one e-course and four webinars per year and host them on the ETAC portal.
