CSAP Prevention Fellowship Program
Graduate Student Summer Internship for Tribes and Tribal Organizations
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) is accepting applications for the Prevention Fellowship Program Summer Internship for Graduate Students in Tribes and Tribal Organizations.
The Summer Internship, a component of CSAP's Prevention Fellowship Program, invites qualified graduate students from schools of public, behavioral, and allied health to apply for a 10-week paid internship program in participating Strategic Prevention Framework - Tribal Incentive Grant (SPF -TIG) locations and Tribal Organizations throughout the United States. The program will offer graduate students front-line experience in the field of substance abuse prevention and will focus on providing interns with Epidemiological and Evaluation training as well as hands-on experience.
The SPF-SIG initiative has built upon the State Incentive Grant (SIG) program, launched by CSAP in 1997, as one of SAMHSA's Infrastructure Grant programs. This program was also included in the tribal community as the SPF-TIG. These programs support an array of activities to help grantees build a solid foundation for delivering and sustaining effective substance abuse and mental health services. In the case of SPF-TIG/SIG, Tribal/State grantees receive funding to implement the framework in order to achieve the following goals: (1) prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse, including childhood and underage drinking; (2) reduce substance abuse-related problems in communities; and (3) build prevention capacity and infrastructure at the state and community levels.
Summer interns are accepted on a location-by-location basis, depending on the individual
SPF -TIG sites and Tribal Organizations. Please refer to the list of participating locations that will be accepting interns. Interns will receive a stipend of $15 per hour and will be required to work 40 hours per week from June 11, 2012 - August 17, 2012. They will not be provided with insurance, travel, lodging, per diem allowances, or conference registration reimbursement.
