This training will focus on the needs of children who experience grief and trauma as a result of homicide and how victim service providers, mental health professionals, and law enforcement can work together to best serve these children. Topics include:
- The signs of grief and trauma in children affected by a homicidal death and the unique challenges surrounding this experience.
- Appropriate intervention strategies with children experiencing grief and trauma in order to make referrals.
- Strategies to enhance multidisciplinary responses to the special needs of children who experience grief and trauma.

- Differentiate homicide from other types of death.
- Describe how and why media may negatively impact children experiencing grief.
Module 5: The Death Dynamic
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the role of the death dynamic in children.
Module 6: What We Know About Children and Grief
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Describe the impact of traumatic grief on children.
Module 7: Children Experiencing Grief and Trauma
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify the signs and symptoms of trauma.
- Describe the effects of trauma on brain development.
- Relate developmental stages to various trauma manifestations.
Module 8: Effective Responses to Children
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Identify practical ways to help grieving children.
Module 9: Multidisciplinary Responses
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:
- Adopt best practices for collaborating as a multidisciplinary team to serve children experiencing grief and trauma.
- Construct a vision of a multidisciplinary approach that would result in the greatest healing benefits for children experiencing grief and trauma.
