Mentored K Awardees Meeting:
Making the Transition to Independence
Welcome
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is pleased to announce NIDA’s Mentored K Awardees Meeting: Making the Transition to Independence, which will be held on July 24–25, 2008, at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Maryland. The National Institutes of Health’s Mentored K Awards are intended to foster career development towards a role as an independent researcher in the biomedical and behavioral sciences through financial support and mentorship.
NIDA recognizes the importance of effective training and mentoring to ensure that scientists of the highest caliber develop the skills and knowledge necessary for the transition to independent research careers to meet the Nation’s future needs in the field of drug abuse and addiction research. NIDA is hosting this meeting to provide a forum for mentored K awardees to:
- Hear about and discuss career pathways with successful former NIDA-K recipients;
- Gain information on grant writing and the review process;
- Receive practical advice about transitioning to and succeeding in an independent research career;
- Showcase their current research; and
- Meet with NIDA program staff and fellow K colleagues.
We hope that you will be able to participate in this important career development event.
