KIPCHUMBA KITUR Selected as
Employee of the Quarter

(April 13, 2011) Silver Spring, MD—In honor of the hard work of employees who support the efforts of Synergy Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) to provide consistent and innovative services to clients, SEI has selected its sixth Employee of the Quarter. Kipchumba (Chumba) Kitur, research assistant for SEI’s Division of Research and Peer Review Services, earned this prestigious award for going above and beyond expectations, consistently providing exceptional client service, demonstrating advanced technical expertise, exhibiting cooperation and teamwork, and offering creative approaches to tasks and problem solving.

Chumba’s coworkers and supervisors describe him as “an exceptional young man.” He joined SEI in 2010 immediately after graduating from college, and he jumped in right away with eagerness, kindness, and a humble spirit. Over the last year, Chumba has gained exceptional skill in organizing and carrying out proposal coordination responsibilities. Without hesitation, he has stepped up to support the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) contract, the Language Instruction Education Programs contract, and SEI’s new Teacher Incentive Fund project. People use the words “team player” as a cliché frequently, but Chumba is truly a team player who seeks no personal glory. He welcomes every new member of the team and voluntarily and enthusiastically shares his knowledge and skills. Overall, without Chumba, the Division of Research and Peer Review Services would not be able to accomplish what they accomplish. Chumba’s work on the DoDEA contract has been instrumental to the division’s success and his hard work has garnered numerous kudos from the client.

“To work with Chumba is to experience a level of cooperation and collaboration that is refreshing and productive,” wrote his supervisor, Kathy Zantal-Wiener. “Chumba has an authentic desire to learn and improve in every aspect of his work and it is this attitude of humility and productivity that makes us proud to work with him and continually reminds us about the value of cooperation and collaboration.”

Other staff members, who are required to provide a reason for nomination, including specific examples of noteworthy behavior or work ethic, nominate employees each quarter. During the nomination process, SEI asks employees to describe what makes the nominee unique and to explain how he or she best exemplifies SEI’s core values. SEI’s executive team reviews the nominations, and one winner is selected based on his or her proven ability to perform well in each of the categories listed above.

Please take a moment to recognize the outstanding work and achievements of the 2011 1st Quarter star employee!

A Little About Chumba

Research Assistant for SEI’s Division of Research and Peer Review Services

Chumba speaks four languages; English, Swahili, the Kenyan national language, Nandi, his native dialect, and some French. If he could change careers today, he would become a pastor. “I love people and would like to make a timeless impact in their lives,” says Chumba. Chumba would return to Kenya, which he describes as one of the most beautiful countries with stunning sceneries and diverse wildlife. “I don’t think anything beats waking up to the roaring of lions and grazing of wildebeests against the backdrop of the sun rising above the expansive plains of Maasai Mara.”
