SEI Developing TA Center for Defense Education Activity Project

SILVER SPRING, MD—In support of the Promoting Student Achievement at Schools Impacted by Military Force Structure Changes grant program, Synergy Enterprises, Inc. (SEI) is establishing an Evaluation Technical Assistance Center (ETAC). Grantees include local education agencies (LEAs) where student enrollment is impacted by military dependent’s transition from overseas (DoD) schools to civilian schools or by force structure changes (e.g., Base Realignment and Closure, Global Defense Posture Realignment). Many of these students and their families make choices about schooling options and often choose to attend public schools near military installations (known as military-connected schools).
The new Center will aid grantees by providing evaluation resources, sponsoring topic-based webinars, and creating a standard online data collection form, that grantees can use to report progress and outcomes. This Center will be established under contract with the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity.
Through this contact, SEI offers technical assistance services to help grantees build their capacity to conduct evaluations and to report data in a clear and consistent manner. The ETAC will supplement SEI’s technical assistance efforts by establishing baseline knowledge and skills among the project directors and evaluators of the funded grant; developing the mechanisms to facilitate the collection, management, and reporting of uniform evaluation data; and providing evaluation resources to help grantees and evaluators design, implement, and report evaluations. In addition, the ETAC will do the following:
- Conduct a grant compliance conference for each new grantee cohort.
- Sponsor webinars on various topics.
- Host a public and private Web site that is populated with evaluation resources, grantee demographic information, and links to related resources and organizations;
- Create a standard data collection form that can be used to report grant progress and outcomes via the Internet.
- Provide telephonic, Web-based, and other technical assistance, as needed.
